How to submit briefs for the calendar page

Local briefs is a summary of events and programs held in the Diocese of Superior. Parishes and organizations are asked to submit event notices via email, fax or postal mail by Wednesday noon, the week before the publication date. Aug. 27
Summer fest, Tony
St. Anthony de Padua, Tony, Sunday, Aug. 27, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. annual summer fest. The day includes charcoal chicken dinner, with homemade potato salad, baked beans, corn, roll, homemade pie and ice cream. Cost: $9 for one-half chicken; $7 for one-quarter chicken. There will be raffles, paddle game with door prizes and gun board. 715-532-3051.

Aug. 27
Ecumenical program, Minong
“From Conflict to Communion: Lutheran-Catholic Commemoration of the Reformation,” an ecumenical event, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. Pastor Carl Heidel and the Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 675 Shell Creek Road in Minong, will be hosting this event. Participants in this worship will be members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Solon Springs, with Pastor Jason Clifton, and members of three Catholic churches in the area: St. Pius X, Solon Springs; St. Anthony, Gordon; and St. Mary, Minong, with Fr. James Kinney.
Everyone is welcome to attend and no RSVP is needed. People leading the worship and those with disabilities will be able to park in the Calvary church lot; the rest are requested to park at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 506 Main St. in Minong and a shuttle will provide transportation to Calvary. 651-494-2036.

Aug. 27
Outdoor Mass/picnic, Ojibwa
St. Peter, Winter and Sacred Heart, Radisson, will host an outdoor polka Mass and picnic at Ojibwa Park in Ojibwa at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27. Bring a lawn chair and a dish to pass. Polish sausage, sloppy joes, coffee, lemonade and water will be provided. All are invited. 715-266-3441.

Fall festival, Rib Lake
Good Shepherd, Rib Lake, Sunday, Aug. 27. Fall festival including a polka Mass at 9 a.m., followed by choice of grilled chicken, beef tips or kielbasa dinner, serving 10:30 a.m. to noon, or until gone. Other activities include raffles, trivia, silent auction, children’s games, guessing contest, bean bag game, and bingo, 1 to 3 p.m. Raffle drawing at 3 p.m. 715-427-5259.

Aug. 27
Outdoor Mass, Amery
St. Joseph, Amery, 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, Outdoor Mass and sweet corn feed festival at Michael Park in Amery. JC Rock, a Christian group, will perform. Other activities include games and prizes for children. Faith Formation registration will also take place at the park. Attendees are encouraged to bring backpacks and car keys to Mass, for a blessing to start the school year. Bring lawn chairs. 715-268-7717.

Pancake breakfast, Phillips
St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Phillips, from 8 to11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. All-you-care-to-eat pancake breakfast. The menu includes: pancakes, French toast, sausage and egg. Cost: $8 for adults; $6 for children ages 5-12; preschoolers eat free. Proceeds will benefit Price County Respect Life. 715-339-2222.

Sept. 10
Dinner, Turtle Lake
St. Ann Parish, Turtle Lake, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10. Annual grilled chicken dinner, after the 10 a.m. Mass. Cost: $9 for adults; $4 for children ages 6-12; children ages 5 and under eat free. The day will include a silent auction held by the Knights of Columbus, raffle, cake walk, fishpond and basket raffles. Proceeds of the silent auction will go to support seminarians in honor of Fr. John Spangers. Proceeds of the dinner and other activities will benefit the CCW and the parish. 715-822-2948.

Sept. 10
Ham and meatloaf dinner, Pattison Park
St. William, Pattison Park, Sunday, Sept. 10, Mass, 10:30 a.m., followed by a ham and meatloaf dinner, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost: $10 for adults; $5 for children; preschoolers eat free.
There will also be a bake sale, country garden, silent auction, homemade pasties and more. The church is wheelchair accessible. 715-394-7919.

Golf classic, Poplar
Poplar Golf Course, 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, Shotgun start. Four-person nine-hole all-age golf scramble. Cost: $25 for adults; $10 for children ages 11 to 17; children younger than 10 play free.
