Donation match for hunger relief

St. Vincent de Paul’s Pantry and Kitchen, Rice Lake, has an opportunity to receive 1 pound of food for each dollar raised by Sept. 30.

The organization can receive up to 5,000 pounds of food from the Feed My People Food Bank, Eau Claire, where the Rice Lake food pantry purchases food not received in drives and donations.

The number of households receiving food has increased in the last year, the organization reports.

The deadline for the program is Sept. 30. Donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 11, Rice Lake, WI 54868. “Match challenge” must be noted on the check.

Diocese to host pro-life event

The Diocese of Superior, with support from the Diocese of Duluth, is hosting a pro-life conference Saturday, Sept. 30. Speakers are Gloria Purvis, co-host of EWTN Morning Glory on Real Presence Radio, and Nic Davidson, a Duluth native and Theology of the Body speaker who has appeared at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Whittlesey, and other parishes.

“God’s Gift – To Love Every Body” is the title of the conference; the theme is “focusing on the meaning and importance of life in all forms, and loving every body at every stage.” The event, which also includes a dinner with the speakers Friday, Sept. 29, will be held at UW-Superior. Catholic concert in Duluth

A free outdoor Catholic concert will be held in Duluth, Minnesota, on the grounds of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary on Sunday, Sept. 17. Gates open at 5 p.m. with The Aly Aleigha Band at 5:45 p.m., followed by The Thirsting at 7 p.m. Aly Aleigha is a Rice Lake native and contemporary Catholic artist who has performed in the Diocese of Superior.
