Local briefs is a summary of events and programs held in the Diocese of Superior. Parishes and organizations are asked to submit event notices via email, fax or postal mail by Wednesday noon, the week before the publication date. Jan. 12-13
Pasty sale, Superior
The Knights of Columbus Council 499, Superior, will hold a pasty sale. The cost is $4 for a 12-oz. pasty (filling: beef, potatoes, carrots, onions and rutabagas). Pasties will be available for pickup from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both Friday and Saturday, at St. Anthony Church, Superior. Contact any Knight to order your pasties. 715-364-2664. Jan. 17
Grace before Meals, Rice Lake
St. Joseph, Rice Lake, will host “Grace before Meals,” with Fr. Leo Patalinghug. This family fun night, running 6:15-7:45 p.m., will include desserts, karate and faith discussions. Free will offerings. Preregister now at www.bit.ly/FrLeo18.

Pancake breakfast
St. John the Baptist, Prentice, after the 9:30 a.m. Mass. A pancake breakfast, sponsored by the parish CCW. Menu includes pancakes with syrup, sausage patties, applesauce and a variety of home baked sweets. Free will donations appreciated. 715-339-2222.

Morning Star Prayer Group, Barron

Ice fishing contest, Amery
St. Joseph Church, Amery, will host the 54th annual ice fishing contest and chicken dinner. Fishing starts at 7 a.m. Tickets to fish cost: $15 for adults; $10 for kids ages 15 and younger. Ticket prices include a chicken dinner until sold out. Visit www.stjosephamery.org or call 715-268-7717.

Pancake breakfast, Ashland
The Ashland Knights of Columbus are hosting a pancake and sausage breakfast, 8 a.m. to noon, as part of Catholics Schools Week. It will be held at Our lady of the Lake Social Hall. Presentation, River Falls
St. Bridget, River Falls, 6:30-8:30 p.m. “Six things we couldn’t have imagined at Vatican II” is the topic of the fifth annual Doris H. Murphy Memorial Lecture, and will be presented by Fr. J. Michael Byron, STD. The six things  are:  The Crisis in Authority; The Communications Revolution; The Sexual Abuse Crisis; The Shifting Face of Church Ministers; Christianity in the Face of Other Religions; and New Questions for Christian Anthropology. 715-425-1870.

Salad Bar Luncheon, Superior
St. Francis Xavier Church, Superior, Feb. 10, starting at noon. Salad bar luncheon featuring a variety of homemade salads, bread, desserts and beverage.

Pancake breakfast

Men’s retreat, Mason
A diocesan men’s retreat will be held at CrossWoods Camp, Mason, starting 8 p.m., Feb. 16, and concluding at noon Feb. 18.

Feb. 16
Lenten fish dinners, Phillips
The Knights of Columbus Council 2963 will hold a fish fry, 4:30-6:30 p.m. each Friday through Lent, at St. Therese of Lisieux, Phillips.
The menu includes baked or battered fish, baked potato, coleslaw, rolls, milk, coffee and dessert. Cost: $6 for 1 piece dinner; $8 for 2 piece dinner; $10 for 3 piece dinner; $12 for 4 piece. 715-339-2222.
