How to submit briefs for the calendar page

Local briefs is a summary of events and programs held in the Diocese of Superior. Parishes and organizations are asked to submit event notices via email, fax or postal mail by Wednesday noon, the week before the publication date. April 20
Smelt fry and pulled pork, Rhinelander
The Knights of Columbus will hold an all-you-can-eat smelt fry at the Nativity North building (St. Joseph’s Church), Rhinelander. The menu will include pulled pork sandwich plate, baked potato, coleslaw, bread, dessert, and drink. There will also be a paddle wheel and prizes. Cost: $11 for adults; $6 for children ages 12 and under; children younger than age 5 eat free. Carryouts available. Call 715-362-3366. Proceeds to benefit Nativity School, Rhinelander.

April 20-22
Women’s silent retreat, Buffalo, MN
Christ the King Retreat Center, Buffalo, will hold a silent retreat for women. Cost: $160 per person. A $30 deposit is required. For more information go to kingshouse.com or call 763-682-1394, ext. 11.

April 21
Morning of reflection, Boulder Junction
St. Anne, Boulder Junction, will hold “Becoming more compassionate and forgiving,” a morning of reflection. The program is free and open to men and women of all ages. April 22
Earth day program, Minong
The Catholic and Lutheran Churches of Minong, Gordon and Solon Springs will sponsor “Earth Our Common Home,” an Earth Day prayer service and workshops. It will start at 4 p.m. at the Jack Link Aquatic and Activity Center, in Minong. There will be speakers from the Washburn County Lakes and Rivers Association, Washburn County Community Rights Organization and Department of Natural Resources-Minong Ranger. April 22-25
40 Hours in Adoration, Rice Lake
St. Joseph, Rice Lake, will host 40 Hours in Adoration, from 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 22, to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. Mercy Fr. Thomas Sullivan, CPM, will lead the devotion. The daily schedule includes Mass, prayers, rosary, Stations of the Cross, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, lunch (except Wednesday), musical praise and worship, and confession. Daily presentations include “Fr. Pio and Mass”; “Eucharistic miracles”; “Eucharist: True presence”; and “Angels: How they teach us to adore.” 715-234-2032.

April 22-28
Icon retreat, Arbor Vitae
Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center, Arbor Vitae, will hold an icon retreat/workshop. Beginners and advanced students will paint an icon of The Good Shepherd, using acrylic paints and embellished with gold leaf. Led by Barbara Lawless. Cost: $650 for residents, which includes a private room in a shared cabin and all needs; $450 for commuters. Limit of 8. A $100 deposit if required with registration. Register by March 22. April 29
Roast beef dinner, Catawba
St. Paul the Apostle, Catawba, will host a roast beef dinner from noon to 2 p.m. The menu includes roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes, homemade buns and pies. Cost: $25 for family; $8 for adults; $3 for children; preschoolers eat free.

Fiesta de Mayo, Superior
Holy Assumption, Superior, will hold the third annual Fiesta de Mayo taco dinner from 4:30-7 p.m. The menu includes soft or hard shells with all trimmings, Spanish rice, refried beans, chips and salsa, dessert and beverage. May 2
Pilgrimage, Ladysmith
Our Lady of Sorrows, Ladysmith, will host a one-day tour to The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, Champion, in the Diocese of Green Bay. Led by Fr. Inna Reddy Pothireddy, the bus will leave the church at 7 a.m. and return at 9 p.m. Cost for the bus and tour is $40. Box lunches are $9 at the shrine, or bring a bagged lunch. 715-532-3051. St. John, Clear Lake, will hold its annual spring plant, bake and craft sale, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be homemade soup, bread, homemade rolls and other refreshments served. 715-265-7133.

Spring tea luncheon,Superior
St. Anthony, Superior, will hold a five-course spring tea luncheon, starting at noon. The cost is $15 for adults; $10 for children ages 12 and under. Spring luncheon, Lac du Flambeau
St. Anthony of Padua, Lac du Flambeau, will hold the 56th annual spring luncheon, sponsored by the Women’s Club. The luncheon includes a variety of soups and salads, coffee, rolls and dessert. The event will include door and table prizes and raffles. Proceeds go towards scholarships, and community projects. Tickets are $10, and may be purchased at the parish or at the door. 715-588-3148.

Joint SDCCW Convention, Duluth
The Superior Diocesan Council of Catholic Women convention will hold a joint convention with the Duluth Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at The College of St. Scholastica. Information will be available at www.sdccw.me closer to the event date.

Pancake breakfast, Phillips
St. Therese of Lisieux, Phillips, will hold an all-you-care-to-eat pancake and French toast breakfast from 8-11:30 a.m. The menu includes sausage and eggs. Cost: $8 for adults; $6 for children ages 5-12, preschoolers eat free. Proceeds to benefit Price County Respect Life. 715-339-2222.

Totus Tuus, Superior
The Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior, will host Totus Tuus, Sunday, June 10, to Friday, June 15. This year’s theme is the luminous mysteries of the rosary and Apostle’s Creed. This program for grades 1-6 runs 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 11-15; the teen program for grades 7-12 runs from 7:30-9:30 p.m. June 10-14.
