Planned Parenthood closes
The Planned Parenthood site in Sheboygan is closing, Wisconsin pro-life organizations are reporting. The clinic will close Thursday, Aug. 17. Abortions in the state have also fallen for the seventh consecutive year, according to Wisconsin Right to Life.
Catholic concert in Duluth
A free outdoor Catholic concert will be held in Duluth, Minnesota, on the grounds of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary on Sunday, Sept. 17. Retrouvaille weekend in Marathon
A weekend of rediscovery for couples in troubled marriages is set for Aug. 11-13 at St. Anthony Spirituality Center, Marathon. “If it weren’t for the grace of God and the miracle of this program, we would not have made it past our 20th anniversary,” said Irene Mehlos, Merrill. Hudson woman charged with theft
A woman is accused of stealing as much as $40,000 over four years from the collection baskets and fundraisers at St. Patrick, Hudson. Kathryn R. Burge, 64, was charged in St. Croix County with two counts of misdemeanor theft and one count of obstruction.
According to a letter distributed to St. Patrick parishioners, she was serving as a sacristan when she allegedly took the cash. Burge’s prior convictions, including misdemeanor theft and felony forgery, also involved the parish and school. Her next court appearance is Oct. 5.
Fr. Casey’s remains exhumed
DETROIT (CNS) – The remains of Fr. Solanus Casey were exhumed Aug. 1 as part of the canonical process that precedes the saintly Capuchin Franciscan friar’s beatification Mass in November.
The purpose of the exhumation, according to the Capuchin Province of St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Detroit, was to both officially identify the body and to collect relics that will be used to venerate Fr. Casey after he is beatified Nov. 18.
Detroit Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron presided over the private exhumation service, which was limited to a handful of individuals, including three medical professionals who were on hand to examine the remains and report on the condition of the body.
Fr. Casey was born and raised in what is now the Diocese of Superior.
Concert in Hayward
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hayward, is hosting a father/son duo in concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16.
A writer, entertainer, composer and singer who plays six keyboards simultaneously, Paul Todd has been amazing crowds since he won the National Yamaha Keyboard Contest at the age of fourteen.
Although he is primarily a Christian artist, Todd’s concerts include original, classical, popular and Broadway selections. Paul will be joined by his son, Paul Todd Jr., an accomplished entertainer, singer/songwriter and worship leader.
Tickets may be purchased at the parish office or after weekend Masses; at St. Ann, Cable, after weekend Masses; or at Art Beat, Hayward. Cost is $20. Proceeds will be shared with Hayward Regional Hospice Services and the local food pantry.
