When Fr. Chris Kemp, pastor St. Francis Xavier in Merrill and St. John the Baptist in Bloomville, tasked Dcn. Jim Arndt with the mission of how to engage people more in the life of the parish, an often-asked question surfaced in the deacon’s mind.
Parishioners from St. John the Baptist, Glenwood City; St. Bridget, Wilson; and St. John, Clear Lake, and neighboring parishes, went on a pilgrimage to visit the Basilica of St. Mary, Minneapolis, and the Cathedral of St. Paul and National Shrine, St. Paul, Aug. 27.
It’s been nearly 20 years since the Diocese of Superior’s last strategic planning effort. To ensure the vitality of the local Church in decades to come, diocesan officials are working on a new planning initiative that will map out the next 10 to 20 years.
Seminarians from across the state of Wisconsin gathered during the first weekend of August in La Crosse. In total, seven bishops were present, seven vocations directors and 97 seminarians.

The weekend of Aug. 17-18 was bittersweet, with both celebration and goodbyes, for the people of Good Shepherd Parish, Rib Lake, as they bid farewell to their pastor, Fr. Otto Bucher, OFM Cap.
