Dear Pastors, Parish Directors and Parish Life Coordinators,
I write today regarding the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and the terrible suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Iraq, Syria and Gaza who are struggling each day just to survive.
At the request of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, I am asking you to consider taking up a special collection to provide humanitarian relief and pastoral support for our affected brothers and sisters in the Middle East.
These funds will be used by Catholic Relief Services and other Catholic agencies to meet the most urgent humanitarian needs facing the people of the Middle East.
Although your parish is currently undertaking the Catholic Services Appeal at this time, if you choose to participate in this specific special collection, please do so within the next few weeks. The Diocese will help facilitate the collection and direct the funding to the USCCB Office of National Collections.
As with all our special collections, deposit the funds locally and forward one check made out to the Diocese of Superior to the Department of Stewardship and Development with a note saying “Special Collection for the Middle East.”
For additional information on this collection please feel free to contact Mr. Steve Tarnowski at
715-394-0223 or .
Thank you for your help and generosity in assisting with this humanitarian need.
I remain gratefully yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Peter F. Christensen
Bishop of Superior
