Two parishes in the Diocese of Superior are celebrating anniversaries the weekend of Aug. 23-24.
St. Anthony Church, Superior, is celebrating its centennial year with a 4 p.m. Mass Aug. 23. Incorporated in August 1914, the parish originally consisted of 39 families. The current church, completed in 1958, is located in Allouez-Itasca area of Superior. Fr. Don Kania is pastor of the parish, which is clustered with St. Anthony, Lake Nebagamon. St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Bloomville, is commemorating its 125th anniversary with 10 a.m. Mass Aug. 24. Following Mass, the parish will hold its annual grilled chicken dinner and a bake sale and raffle, among other activities. The Jackson Family will perform live music.
First constructed in 1889, the church was rebuilt in 1966 and is clustered with St. Francis Xavier, Merrill. Fr. Mike McLain is the pastor. For more information, call 715-536-2803.
