First communicants from St. Bridget Catholic Church, River Falls, have collected more than $1,000 for the needy. When the 65 children began preparing for their first Communion, they each started a Love Bank for spare change, said Diane Wengelski, parish coordinator for religious education. “Many of the kids did extra chores to earn additional money to put in their Love Banks,” she added. The money will be donated to charities chosen by the children: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Feed My Starving Children, the local food pantry, the Wounded Warrior Project and an animal shelter.
