Mexican citizens living in north central Wisconsin can receive help when the Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit visits Merrill, starting at 9 a.m. June 16.
The Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit will offer services at the offices of Comunidad Hispana Inc. in Merrill, 503 S. Center Ave. Ste. 4. The Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit is an extension of the Mexican Consulate of Milwaukee and has a wide range of consular services available, not only to Mexican citizens living in Merrill, but also to those living in any of the nearby surrounding communities such as Abbotsford, Marshfield, Medford, Antigo, Wausau, Minocqua, Tomahawk and Stevens Point.
The Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee offers assistance and advice to citizens of Mexico living or traveling in Wisconsin. The consulate issues Mexican identification cards, passports, birth certificates, officially stamps and notarizes legal documents to be used in Mexico and also provides advice and support in the case of an accident, serious illness or death. The Mexican consulate also distributes information relevant to the overall wellbeing of Mexican nationals living in or visiting the United States.
For Mexican citizens living outside of the Milwaukee area, the trip to the Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee can present a serious challenge due to transportation costs and work constraints. When the Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit travels to remote locations it allows more nationals to take advantage of its services and reduces the burden on local government. Merrill is the furthest point north in Wisconsin for access to the Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit.
Comunidad Hispana, Inc. of Merrill, Wisconsin is a non-profit organization, began in 2003 for the purpose of providing Hispanic individuals and families living in Merrill and surrounding areas with basic needs and helping them become a part of the greater community. The visit by the Mexican Consulate Mobile Unit is part of an initiative to expand critical consular services to this population.
