Wisconsin Special Olympics, Interfaith Caregivers of Polk County and Endeavors Adult Development Center, Balsam Lake all support those with intellectual disabilities through education, job training, recreation and more.
James Otto, grand knight of the Knights of the Lakes Council, said the 55-member group raises money through Tootsie Roll drives, parish breakfasts, raffles and other means.

The council’s other interests include a fundraiser for seminarians and a Rose for Life program for baptisms. They also undertake service projects in the community.

The Knights of the Lakes recently started a Facebook page, said David Horejsi, a recruit who is in charge of public relations.

“I’m getting our activities published in local newspapers and on Facebook to further help with recruiting new members and show people where some of their donations are being sent,” he added.
