Bishop to celebrate Chrism Mass

The public is invited to join Bishop James P. Powers as he celebrates the Diocese of Superior’s annual Chrism Mass on Tuesday, April 9, at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Superior.

Bishop Powers will bless the Oil of Catechumens and the Oil of the Sick and consecrate the Chrism during the Mass. A luncheon will be held in Kress Hall following the Mass.

St. Joseph Quilt Event

St. Joseph Church, Rice Lake, hosts its 12th annual Quilt Event on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the school gymnasium. This year’s theme, ’50s to ’60s Rock ’n Roll, includes The Elvis Show, with entertainer Joe Sir. Sir will also present Quilts of Valor to area veterans. State Rep. Romaine Quinn, St. Joeseph School alumnus, is the guest emcee. Admission is $5, which includes a chance at door prizes. Milwaukee archbishops’ names erased

The names of former Milwaukee archbishops William E. Cousins and Rembert G. Weakland, were removed from buildings in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee on March 19. This action was part of the Catholic Church’s continuing response to the clergy sexual abuse of minors. Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki wrote about his decision to rename these buildings in his weekly blog, Love One Another. On March 22, the archdiocese announced the former Archbishop Cousins Catholic Center would be renamed Mary Mother of the Church Pastoral Center.

Blue Mass in Balsam Lake

Our Lady of the Lakes, Balsam Lake, is hosting a Blue Mass for emergency personnel Saturday, May 18. The 6 p.m. Mass is to honor firemen, policemen, EMTs and all others who answer the call when needed. Following the Mass, there will be a blessing of the emergency vehicles.
