Marywood to offer Advent workshops
Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center, Arbor Vitae, will host two workshops during the season of Advent. A Thursday, Dec. 14, workshop is the second in a series on praying the Scriptures and takes place from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with Pat Pintens. The topic is Lectio Divina, Vida and Visio, an ancient way for modern people to pray and uncover spiritual depth in the Scriptures, one’s life and the world. The second workshop, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28, is about creating a more positive future. Sr. Marla Lang, FSPA, will discuss “mental and spiritual images that can help carry us forward in a more positive way” during Advent and in the New Year. A $10 donation is suggested for each session. Evening with St. Nicholas
St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amery, is hosting an Evening with St. Nicholas , from 6-7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3. Children’s activities include a photo and candy cane with St. Nicholas; decorating shoes that will be filled with goodies; learning about the history of St. Nicholas; making cards for veterans; candy cane Nativity ornament-making; making magic reindeer food; and creating old-fashioned popcorn and cranberry and paper garland trimmings for the tree. There will be cookies, hot chocolate and marshmallows. Story time with St. Nicholas begins at 7:15 p.m., and children are encouraged to wear pajamas. Adults should bring cameras to take photos.
Wausau oratory hosts Advent concert
“A Sacred Music Concert: Music for Advent” with the St. Mary’s Schola Cantorum will be at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary’s Oratory, 325 Grand Ave., Wausau. The concert, which features music from a variety of composers, will be directed by Patrick Burkhart, organist and director of music. The choir will also be singing Joseph Haydn’s “Kleine Orgelmesse” at a 6 p.m. High Mass on Friday, Dec. 8, for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and a Christmas Eve Midnight High Mass is at 11 p.m. Dec. 24, with the choir singing Christmas carols beginning at 10:30 p.m.
Women’s Advent retreat in Hayward

Advent Day of Prayer
St. Anthony Retreat Center, Marathon, is hosting “Advent Day of Prayer: Waiting in Joyful Hope” from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3. The session focuses on looking to the prophets and Mary to learn about moving beyond anxiety and waiting in joyful hope. The cost is $45 and includes breakfast and lunch. Guided retreat in Rice Lake
The St. Joseph Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is sponsoring a free, one-day guided Advent retreat presented by Deacon Dennis Geisler and Fr. Ed Anderson at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rice Lake. The Saturday, Dec. 2, event begins with registration from 9 to 10 a.m. and ends with a 4:30 p.m. Mass. Feast of St. Nicholas potluck
Our Lady of Lourdes, Dobie, will celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas Sunday, Dec. 3, with a post-Mass potluck brunch and a visit from St. Nicholas. Mass is at 10 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

St. Joseph, Rice Lake, has started a Traveling Chalice program to encourage families to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, as well as for the perseverance of current priests, seminarians and religious.
