Describe your faith community
Our community is a community of doers: the women have a very active PCCW and the men are active in the Knights of Columbus, hosting monthly hospitality after Mass for the parish community and visitors. They host retreats, Hispanic Outreach Masses and festivals, have an outdoor Mass and picnic in the city park, co-host Advent and Lenten Ecumenical Services and Vacation Bible School. The PCCW asked our priest Fr. Inna Pothireddy to teach them the art of Indian cooking and invited the parishes and community to enjoy the fruits of their labor by serving dinner that evening. Our Liturgical Environment Committee and Music Ministry, including youth members, contribute to vibrant liturgies.
“When visitors come to our parish they will…
Find a welcome, beautiful, open, family-oriented, friendly atmosphere which is handicap accessible, including the exterior of the church.”
In what ways does your parish proclaim the Gospel in actions?
The parish community of St. Mary believes in faith with works. They are always involved with activities that support family and community, including: Scouting; serving the homebound shut-ins by sharing their time and bringing them Communion; and by providing hospitality by hosting dinners and retreats for other groups.
What is something about your parish most people might not know?
St. Mary’s provides a Resale Store for the community that is staffed completely by volunteers. They also serve a delicious Thanksgiving dinner for the parish cluster and the surrounding community in November.
