Describe your faith community
“St Joseph Church is in a friendly rural community of Shell Lake, which is on the western shores of Shell Lake. We actively reach out to welcome all people with hospitality, grace and charity. We serve the Lord and one another by service, outreach and education in our community through our gifts and talents. Our parish family grows in the summer as many families return from warmer areas. We take great pleasure in getting to know new people.”
“When visitors come to our parish they will …
… be greeted as part of the family. Before Mass, many people like to mill about the entry way. There is always talk about the fishing, the natural beauty of the area, and, of course, the Packers. But we do accept all non-Packer football fans.”
In what ways does your parish proclaim the Gospel with its actions?
“We take an active role in ecumenical activities in our community, as well joining and promoting community events. As a small town and lake community, we know everyone. We are quick to support one another and assist those in need. It is obvious how much we care for each other. And on any given Monday or Tuesday you will find a Bible study in progress to enrich your faith.”
What is something about your parish most people might not know?
“The medallions in the current stained glass windows were saved from the old church. The Holy Spirit window, the St Joseph window and the Blessed Mother stained glass window are from the old church as well.”
