Dear Faithful of the Diocese of Superior,

As our country begins a new government administration term, I pray that we in the Diocese of Superior will join in prayer for God’s divine intervention to help our country heal and unite as “one nation under God.” I offer for your prayerful reading and consideration the attached “Statement on the Inauguration” from Most Rev. José Gomez, president of our United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.

I echo Archbishop Gomez’s prayers for President Biden. We pray that his Catholic heart will recognize the injustice of abortion and the intrinsic worth of all human life from the moment of conception to a natural death. We pray that President Biden and his administration will include Catholic Social Teaching principles in policy and legislation, especially in the areas of marriage, family and health care.

Inspired by Pope Francis, as we start this Year of St. Joseph, and following St. Joseph’s example, we pray that President Biden will carry out the mission entrusted to him by God:  Come Holy Spirit, lead President Biden, and all of us, ever closer to the Lord in 2021.

May Almighty God shower you, your loved ones and our nation with his abundant blessings,

Most Rev. James P. Powers
