An income tax deduction goes into effect Jan. 1, 2014, for those paying private and religious school tuition in Wisconsin.

Anyone paying tuition expenses may deduct up to $4,000 per child in kindergarten through eighth grade and up to $10,000 for each child in grades nine through twelve.

According to the Wisconsin Catholic Conference, which supported the legislation, the average eligible family will see tax decreases of around $240 per younger child and $600 for each high school student when they file taxes in 2015.
