Sr. Kristine Haugen of Luck has won first place in a juried art exhibit sponsored by the Benedictine Center in Maplewood, Minnesota.
The exhibit, called “Seeing God,” features regional artists whose creative process captures a sense of the Divine. Sr. Kristine’s watercolor, “Let Your Light Be My Guide,” catches the mystical time of day when there’s a “crack in the sky and God is near.”
Haugen is a Carmelite nun who lives in a hermitage and dedicates her life to solitude and silence. She has been painting since 2000, and has exhibited her art throughout the Midwest, including the Northern Lakes Center for the Arts in Amery, Conversation Pieces Gallery in St. Croix Falls, and Pax Christi Catholic Church in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
About 50 artists submitted their work, which will be on display at the Center until March 6. The top three winners share a $375 prize.
