Every year at St. Mary’s School in Tomahawk, local VFW representatives visit an all-school morning prayer assembly, during which the Kindergarten class leads the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance.
On Oct. 3, the Minong Pocket of Prayer, an ecumenical prayer group, honored the memory of Terry Turek by planting a maple tree at St. Mary’s Church.
Abide with God, says keynote speaker
The newly formed Office of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship – introduced in early spring 2021 under the direction of Chris Hurtubise – has also brought a new employee to the diocesan staff.
The Diocese of Superior’s 2021 Fall Conference led off with a message from Bishop James P. Powers on the mission of evangelization and the role of Catholics in bringing Jesus to their communities and to the young.
Each and every vocational call is unique and individual as is the path one follows in responding to God’s invitation. Hudson native Julian Druffner, a third-year theology student, is one of the growing group of seminarians, but his path to Superior is one-of-a-kind.
Every priest’s vocation story is personal and unrepeatable. For Fr. Francis Adoboli, the Diocese of Superior’s first international priest from Africa (Diocese of Accra, Ghana), the priesthood was love at first sight – although it took many years and mysterious moments for the call to fully reveal itself.
On Monday, Oct. 18 – feast of St. Luke the Evangelist - Bishop James P. Powers celebrated Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Ashland to mark the opening of the Diocese of Superior’s preparation for the 2023 Synod of Bishops on synodality called for by Pope Francis.
“The need of the times is the will of God.” So reads the motto of the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, words that have guided them through many decades of prayer, service and sacrifice in the Diocese of Superior.
